Dr. Bryan Barnes, MD
Dr. Bryan Barnes is a neurosurgeon who brings a wealth of knowledge to GNS Surgery Center, with a focus on spine surgery and minimally invasive techniques. He joined the center in 2005 and has been pivotal in advancing outpatient spine surgery.
Dr. Barnes completed his pre-medical education at Brown University, followed by medical school at the University of Connecticut. His training includes a general surgery internship and a neurosurgery residency at Emory Clinic. He further specialized with a fellowship in spine surgery at Wake Forest School of Medicine.
Dr. Barnes holds three pending U.S. patents for spinal implants and systems and has contributed to a textbook on robotic spine surgery. His interests extend to spinal tumors, trauma, and redo spine surgeries.
Dr. Viren Sahai Vasudeva, MD
Dr. Viren Sahai Vasudeva is a neurosurgeon who focuses on complex spinal disorders and cranial neurosurgery. His commitment to patient care is evident in his work with the SpineAid charity, providing spine deformity corrections for children in developing countries.
Dr. Vasudeva’s academic journey began at the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated with honors. He pursued further studies in neurobiology at the National Institutes of Health before earning his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. His residency and fellowship in spinal neurosurgery were completed at Harvard Medical School.
He has published numerous articles and book chapters and has been involved in teaching neuro-anatomy at Harvard. His contributions to both academic and clinical neurosurgery are significant.
Dr. Michael Neil Woodall, MD
Dr. Michael Neil Woodall is a neurosurgeon who specializes in treating complex neurosurgical problems, including brain aneurysms and AVMs. He joined GNS Surgery Center in 2017 and serves as the medical director of neurosciences at St. Mary’s.
Dr. Woodall earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and his medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine. He completed a comprehensive neurosurgery training program at the Medical College of Georgia, followed by advanced training in cerebrovascular and skull-base surgery at Barrow Neurological Institute.
Dr. Woodall has authored several scholarly articles and co-authored the third edition of “Neurosurgery Board Review: Questions & Answers for Self-Assessment.” His research interests include minimally invasive spinal surgery and vascular disorders of the central nervous system.
Dr. Robert Kyle Townsend, MD
Dr. Robert Kyle Townsend is a neurosurgeon who practices general neurosurgery and spine surgery, with expertise in endovascular treatments for emergency stroke care. He is known for his compassionate and team-based approach to patient care.
Dr. Townsend holds a bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience from Furman University and a medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He completed his neurosurgery residency and neuroendovascular fellowship at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Dr. Townsend is actively involved in several neurosurgical societies and has received the Neurocritical Care Research Award. His dedication to improving patient outcomes is evident through his research and clinical practice.
